Le départ de Baluchon /Baluchon departure

Ça y est c'est le grand jour pour Baluchon. Après deux mois de préparation, notre camion est fin prêt pour son convoyage.

En effet, si vous avez suivi l'aménagement du camion, vous aurez remarqué que nous n'avons prévu ni radeau gonflable ni rames. Baluchon doit donc prendre le bateau pour traverser l'Atlantique jusqu’à Cayenne. Here we are, the big day has arrived for Baluchon. After two months of preparation, our van is ready for its  conveying.

Indeed, if you have followed the furshishing steps, you'll have noticed that no raft nor rows are planned. Baluchon has to take a ship to cross the Atlantic to Cayenne. En résumé nous avons choisi de faire voyager Baluchon en container verrouillé, ce qui est le plus sûr. Pour simplifier toutes les démarches administratives et douanières, nous avons choisi de passer par un intermédiaire qui s'occupe de tout (un transitaire), en l’occurrence la compagnie NMT. Notre seule mission consiste à déposer Baluchon au Port du Havre le 1er juin. Un premier road trip de plus de 1 000 km à travers la France qui constitue aussi le premier test grandeur nature pour le camion. Test réussi avec succès puisque Baluch' a avalé les kilomètres​ sur 2 jours sans aucun problème. Cela a d'ailleurs été l'occasion pour nous de lui de fêter un anniversaire particulier.

In a nutshell we chose to ship Baluchon in a locked container, which is the safest. To simplify all the administrative and custom paperwork, we chose to hire a forwarding agent that takes care of everything, NMT Shipping. Our only mission is to drop Baluchon at the Port of Le Havre on June 1. A first road-trip of more than 1,000 km through France which is also the first real test for the van. Test successfully passed since Baluch' swallowed the kilometres in 2 days without any problem. The trip also gave us the opportunity to wish him a special birthday.

Une fois entrés dans le Port nous nous assurons que tout est bien arrimé dans le camion en prévision de la houle. Puis, après un état des lieux sommaire avec l'agent du Port nous donnons les clés et quittons Baluchon en espérant le retrouver sain et sauf au port Degrad de Cannes (de Cayenne) dans un petit mois. Il sera mis en container par les dockers le 8 juin et prendra la mer le 14 pour deux semaines de traversée.

Once in the Port, we make sure that everything is well-attached in contemplation of the swell. After a quick check with the person in charge we give the keys and leave Baluchon, hoping to find him good and healthy in Degrad de Cannes in a bit less than a month. He will be put in the container by the dockers on June 8 and will sail on June 14 for two weeks.

 

Sachant que le transport est assuré par la compagnie CMA-CGM, nous avons anticipé le coup pour faire une photo afin d'assurer que nous n'oublions pas pour autant leurs lacunes en matière de protection des cétacés. Knowing that the shipping is carried out by CMA-CGM, we have planned a special picture to show that we do not forget their flaws in terms protecting cetaceans. Nous passons le reste de l’après-midi​ et la matinée suivante à visiter le Havre. Nous y sommes juste quand la ville célèbre les 500 ans de sa création. A l'inverse de Marseille, les bassins du Port s’immisçant  jusqu’au cœur de la ville témoignent de la raison même de sa fondation sur ordre de François 1^er (en 1517 donc pour ceux qui ont du mal avec les maths). Le centre, reconstruit après la guerre est malheureusement assez austère malgré les différentes œuvres d'art exposées à l’occasion du demi-millénaire. Voici un petit aperçu.

We spend the rest of the afternoon and the following morning visiting le Havre. We are just there for the celebration of its 500^th birthday. Unlike Marseille, the basins of the Port sneaking all the way through the heart of the city highlight the very reason for its foundation under order of François 1^st (in 1517 for those having trouble with maths). The centre was rebuilt after WWII and is rather austere in spite of the art work exposed for the half-millenium anniversary. Here’s a little overview.
